Actress Erica Gimpel to Host the 29th Annual Little Miss African American Scholarship Pageant
(Los Angeles, CA) – On Sunday, August 6, 2023, the 29th Little Miss African American Scholarship Pageant (LMAA) will light up Barnsdall Art Park in Los Angeles, celebrating the brilliance and creativity of young African-American girls. The event, starting at 3 PM, will be hosted by acclaimed actress Erica Gimpel, best known for her roles on Profiler, ER, and Fame.
A Pageant with a Purpose
Founded by Lisa Ruffin, the LMAA Scholarship Pageant is more than just a competition—it’s an educational program designed to empower young girls aged 6-12. With its mission to promote “Confidence, Awareness, and Pride,” the pageant combines arts, public speaking training, and cultural education to nurture the intellectual and creative talents of its participants.
Over the past 29 years, the program has awarded hundreds of scholarships, giving many young girls from underserved and single-parent homes opportunities to thrive. For some participants, this pageant marks their first experience as a “Princess” or even their first time owning a dress, creating unforgettable memories and milestones.

About Lisa Ruffin and the LMAA Pageant
Lisa Ruffin, a Juilliard-trained performer and award-winning choreographer, founded LMAA to instill confidence, creativity, and pride in young African-American girls. Her work spans across theater, television (Moesha, The Steve Harvey Show), and collaborations with music icons like Stevie Wonder and Tina Turner.
Under her leadership, LMAA has become the longest-running scholarship pageant for young African-American girls, leaving an indelible mark on countless lives.
